Amsure’s Ribbon Cutting

Bonacio project ribbon cutting event

Not even the rain could take away from celebrating  Amsure’s ribbon cutting! Our construction team was on hand, having significantly transformed an underutilized former government office building into Amsure’s modern headquarters. Also in attendance at the event were Adirondack Trust, Roohan Realty, Saratoga Report, Phinney Design Group, the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce, and local and state elected officials, including the mayor of Saratoga Springs, John Safford, and NYS Senator Jim Tedisco.

Today isn’t only International Women’s Day but also the last day of Women in Construction Week. In honor of the occasion, we would like to introduce Sarah Steepe, one of our contract administrators who plays a vital role in the construction process. Keep reading to learn more about her insights as a woman in the construction industry.

  1. How did you decide on a career in the construction industry?
I found my way into the construction field through a close friend’s concrete and excavation company. Watching their work close up, I became captivated by the entire process- turning a vision into reality, taking an idea or drawing, and watching it materialize into something special. Whether it’s pouring the foundation for a new building or transforming a plot of land, you can see the results right in front of you, and that’s what ultimately made me choose a career in the construction industry.
  2. What does your role as a Contract Administrator entail?
Contract Administrators play a crucial role in supporting project managers and the construction team to ensure projects run smoothly. We maintain project documentation, prepare reports, and ensure all project records are up to date. Organizing meetings and ensuring timely communication among sub-contractors and team members. We also assist with budget tracking and running expense reports.
  3. What do you enjoy most about your job?
That’s a tough one. While there are many things I enjoy about my job, I really enjoy being a part of the bigger picture. There is something incredibly rewarding about saying, “I contributed to this.”
  4. Do you have any advice for women thinking about a career in the trades?
As a woman, don’t be afraid to step into the trades. The trades are an amazing career path, and the industry needs more diverse perspectives and talents. The trades aren’t just for men; there is a place for women to thrive here, too.
  5. Which amazing women inspire you?
I can’t name a specific woman who inspires me, but I deeply admire and look up to the women I work alongside in the construction industry, specifically at Bonacio Construction. Their resilience, skills, and dedication motivate me every day and show me the incredible contributions women make in this field.
