In an effort to better serve the community The Malta Ridge Volunteer Fire Company and The Round Lake Fire Department have joined together to create The Fire Companies of Malta, also known as FCOM. The Design Team of Butler Rowland Mays Architects, LLP, Bonacio Construction, Inc. and the Board of FCOM began designing the new building in the early Spring of 2013. Construction followed in late November of 2013.
The structure is comprised mainly of steel columns, beams, and rafters as well as concrete masonry unit. The facade is made up of fiber cement siding and trim along with architectural concrete block. Fire engines, trucks, a boat, and a bailout simulator are housed in the two and one half story 8,000 square foot apparatus bay with radiant heated floors and a clear story of windows allowing for a generous amount of natural sunlight. The first floor of the building includes 1,920 SF of office spaces, a radio room, day room with kitchenette, and a conference room. Included on the first floor is 1,090 square feet of locker room with bathrooms and a PPE Laundry Room. The second floor of the building holds 1,455 square feet for future sleeping quarters and a kitchen/common Area. Also included on the second floor is a 690 square foot mechanical and IT Room.
